I’m Emily Lowan, and I’m the new Leader of the BC Green Party.
These are not normal times.
Here in B.C., one-third of us can’t afford our bills. Rent and grocery prices are sky-high. Home-ownership and good, stable work feel like a fantasy. And it’s difficult to imagine our futures through the haze of wildfire smoke and worsening climate disasters every year.
To make matters worse, the rise of the MAGA movement poses a real threat to our province. Premier Eby says he’s “Elbows Up” against the US trade war, but he’s fast-tracking a natural gas pipeline built by U.S. military contractors, sending profits straight to Donald Trump’s inner circle of donors. He’s using the Trump threat to justify a sweeping, undemocratic power-grab, Bill 15, at the expense of Indigenous rights and the climate.
I’m tired of corporations and billionaires calling the shots. If our leaders won’t stand up for working Canadians, it’s up to the people to fight.
More than ever, we need bold vision and immediate action. We need people-powered resistance to confront MAGA billionaires, corporate greed, and government complacency. And our movement needs a political vehicle to change the conversation: to centre the people, not the corporate lobbyists. As an organizer, I lead bold campaigns for climate action, affordability, and Indigenous rights — and win. I know we can win more for BC.
As your BC Greens Leader, my core priorities are to:
Fight the Oligarchs — Stop the MAGA-backed PRGT pipeline, ban all fossil fuel expansion and rapidly phase out production, implement vacancy control, and bring down food costs with price caps on all staple groceries.
Fund Our Future — Tax BC’s richest corporations and the 1% to fund 26,000 affordable housing units per year, free public transit, mental health counselling, and good green jobs.
Respect Indigenous Rights — Uphold DRIPA and say no to major projects that do not have Indigenous consent.
We are building a movement to channel the power of organized people into politics — and force the B.C government to change course. Will you join us?
“Nothing is more essential in politics than a commitment to social justice and climate sanity, along with a fearless advocacy for global human rights. Emily Lowan speaks articulately, with practicality and sincerity to these principles, which is why I support her candidacy to lead the B.C. Green Party.”
— Dr. Gabor Maté, M.D., CM, World-Renowned Speaker, Best-Selling Author
“I have received requests to join the BC Greens for 30 years. I am joining now because I wholeheartedly support Emily Lowan as the next leader of the Party. I know Emily will be a fierce and compassionate advocate for climate ambition and work to keep us safe. Most importantly, she won’t cave to big oil and pretend we don’t need to act urgently.”
“I am proud to endorse Emily Lowan for leadership of the B.C. Green Party. Emily is a strong ally for Indigenous peoples in B.C. and approaches environmental stewardship with full respect for Indigenous rights. Emily understands that the climate crisis is the key issue of our time and takes a proactive, principled, evidence-based approach to coming up with solutions.”
— Grand Chief Stewart Phillip
“I am thrilled to endorse Emily for Leader of the BC Green Party! Emily and I have known each other for years and worked on campaigns and advocacy together. Emily is an experienced leader with an impressive resume. She is the right person to move the Party forward on housing, healthcare, Reconciliation, climate, affordability, and all the issues that the people of B.C. currently face. At a time when climate activists are being told that “now is not the time,” Emily’s bold vision for a livable future can renew our collective commitments to transformative climate action.”
— Jeremy Caradonna, OhD, Victoria City Councillor and CRD Director
“After such disappointing leadership and inaction from the current government, I fully and wholeheartedly endorse Emily Lowan. She has proven, time and time again her belief in true democracy and we know we can trust that.”
— Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chief Na’Moks
“While the premier and official opposition bend over backward for industry, Emily Lowan stands for justice, truth, and the people. She’s exactly the kind of leader this moment demands.”
— Janelle Lapointe, Indigenous Rights and Climate Justice Organizer, Stellat’en First Nation
“Emily Lowan is deeply connected to community, stands in solidarity with focus on Land, Air and Water. The Green Party is in good hands under her leadership …I am glad to call her a friend and ally!”
— Gwii Lok’im Gibuu – Jesse Stoeppler
“Emily understands the assignment: it’s about uplifting people and the planet, it’s not about votes or ego. With Emily, it will always be the common good put first.”
— Susan Kim
“Emily exemplifies the kind of leadership our world desperately lacks – one that is honest, fierce, compassionate and just. With Emily at the helm, I feel confident that our party will inspire those who have been lost to hopelessness. I believe Emily will help us regain traction and put more BC Greens in the Legislature.”
— Kayla Brent, former constituency assistant for Sonia Furstenau, field director for 2020 Sonia Furstenau campaign, and former BC Greens communications coordinator
“I don’t have much belief in the colonial systems – but if anyone is going to challenge them and hold power to account, I know Emily would do just that. We need leadership that not only recognizes these injustices but acts for a just future – for everyone, not just the executives of oil and gas corporations profiting from our suffering.”
— Drew Harris, Wet’suwet’en and Gitxsan land defender
